Vodafone have been around since 1991 and are one of the four big mobile networks in the UK with around 19.5 million customers.
They have a choice of SIM Only and Pay As You Go plans perfect for those who are happy to keep their existing handset.
Let's take a look in more detail at what Vodafone SIM Only has to offer.
SIM only plans
Vodafone have a great range of SIM only plans with a choice of contract lengths so there really is something for everyone.
Contracts come in rolling 30 days, 12 month or 24 month. The 24 months offer the best value as they tend to be a lot cheaper compared to the same tariff on a 30 day contract.
All tariffs come with unlimited minutes and unlimited texts, so it's just a case of selecting the data level that's right for you.
Entertainment plans
Available on selected plans, choose between a subscription to Amazon Prime Video, Spotify Premium or YouTube Premium. You’ll also receive 100 minutes from the UK to anywhere in the EU for free.
Pay as you go plans
Vodafone does still offer the classic pay as you go option. This allows you to just pay for what you use. But it can be quite expensive, at the time of writing (May 2020) rates are 20p per minute, 20p per text and 20p per 5Mb of data. If you spend £1 in a day, Vodafone will give you unlimited minutes and texts plus 500Mb of data to use until midnight.
You can buy a 30 day bundle of data, minutes and texts which offers slightly better value. These are:
- 3Gb Data, 250 minutes and unlimited texts for £10
- 6Gb Data, 250 minutes and unlimited texts for £15
- 10Gb Data, 1000 minutes and unlimited texts for £20

Vodafone also have a 25GB roaming fair use policy. So even if your plan includes 100GB data a month, you can only use up to 25GB of data a month when roaming.

What's bad about Vodafone SIM Only?
Expensive
Vodafone does tend to be amongst the more expensive providers. If you are a light user then it may be worth exploring some of the cheaper networks.
Above average complaints
In the Ofcom comparing service quality report(published on 30th April 2019), Vodafone received 7 complaints per 100,000 customers, well above the industry average of 4, putting them top of the list with Virgin Mobile.
Limited WiFi hotspots
WiFi hotspots are useful for keeping your data usage down, or getting online when there's no mobile signal.
Vodafone falls behind a little in this area. You get free access to Virgin Media's 250+ hotspots across London's TFL network, but this is little use if you don't live in London.
No data rollover for pay monthly customers
Data rollover is a pretty common feature now with most providers, Sky even rolls over your data for 3 years. But for Vodafone customers this feature is only available on their pay as you go bundles.
Price increases
All pay monthly contracts have an annual price adjustment in line with the Retail Price Index (RPI). They did previously have a The Fixed Price Promise but this ended back in May 2016.
