All you need to know about BT Sport

Since its launch BT Sport has gone on to become a major player in televised sports, taking some of the light away from Sky Sports.

BT Sport is the only place to watch every Champions League and Europa League match, along with exclusive Premier League football.

Let's take a look in more detail at what BT Sport has to offer.

What is BT Sport?

BT launched BT Sport back in 2013. It now has 4 channels showing the best sports including the UEFA Champions League, Premier League and Premiership Rugby.

What can I watch on BT Sport?

BT Sport pack features 4 channels – BT Sport 1, BT Sport 2, BT Sport 3 and BT Sport 4 (previously BT ESPN), which all sit alongside their HD versions.

You can view sports like all 351 UEFA Champions League & UEFA Europa League, plus the Premier League, FA Cup, Gallagher Premiership Rugby, Ultimate Fighting Championship, MotoGP™ and loads more.

How do I watch BT Sport?

How you watch BT sport depends on which TV provider you are with.

Watch on BT TV

In February 2020 BT introduced flexible BT TV packages where you can upgrade, downgrade and add bolt-ons.

BT Fibre broadband customers can add a BT Sport Monthly Pass to their BT TV package. Alternatively, it is already included for those customers who sign up to the BT TV Sport, Big Sport or VIP package.

Watch on Sky TV

Sky TV customers can now choose to add the BT Sport pack to their Sky TV package. You can either take this with or without Sky sports.

The BT Sport pack gives you BT Sport 1, 2, 3 and 4, available to watch on your Sky Q box and on the Sky Go app, but does not include access to the BT Sport app.

Add BT Sport to your Sky TV subscription

Watch on Virgin Media

Virgin Media TV customers can subscribe to all BT Sport channels with the BT Sport Collection premium pick add on. Customers with the Virgin TV Bigger bundle receive BT Sport already as part of the package. You can also watch all four BT Sport channels on the Virgin TV Go App.

Add BT Sport to your Virgin Media TV subscription

Watch on EE

BT Sport Ultimate is currently included with EE TV already. EE TV is only available to EE pay monthly mobile customers.

BT Sport App

Customers who already have a BT Sport subscription will have access to the BT Sport App (with the exception of Sky and Virgin Media where you will have to use their own apps), you can simply download this from the App store and follow the instruction to log in.

With the app you can watch on your phone or tablet while you’re out and about. You can also download it direct to your Apple TV, Xbox or Samsung Smart TV. Or you can attach a Google Chromecast and stream the app from your laptop, tablet or phone to your standard TV.

If you don't have a BT Sport subscription, you can still subscribe to the app with a contract free BT Sport Monthly Pass.

BT Sport Monthly Pass

The BT Sport Monthly Pass is available to customers without BT broadband. It allows users to watch through the BT Sport app on their mobile, tablet, console or Smart TV. The Monthly Pass can be cancelled at any time and customers will have access until their 30 day subscription expires.

What about Sky Sports?

Don't worry, we've not forgotten about Sky sports.

Frequently asked questions

Is BT Sports in HD as standard?

This really depends on which provider you are with.

If you are a BT TV Sport or Big Sport package customer then BT Sport channels are in SD. You can upgrade to HD for an additional monthly fee to watch BT Sport in full HD plus access the dedicated 4K UHD channel, BT Sport Ultimate. VIP customers get full HD channels plus BT Sport Ultimate.

For Sky TV customers, BT Sport comes in HD as standard, with BT Ultimate being available via the Red Button.

Virgin Media customers with either a Bigger or Ultimate bundle will receive all four BT Sport channels, plus BT Sport Ultimate at no extra cost.

Can I get BT Sports without a contract?

The only way to get BT sport without a contract is via the BT Sport Monthly Pass. The BT Sport Monthly Pass lets you watch all of BT Sport via the BT Sport app or via the online player. You get a month of BT Sport for £25, contract free. Your Monthly Pass will renew automatically but you can cancel it whenever you want.

What is BT Sport Ultimate?

BT Sport Ultimate is a separate channel that shows select events super high quality 4K, HDR picture quality with Dolby Atmos sound, on compatible devices.

To watch BT Sport Ultimate in 4K HDR, you'll need a connection speed of at least 30Mbps, or 6Mbps on mobiles and tablets.

How to switch

Once you have found the deal you want, simply click the ‘View Deal’ button. This will take you to the providers website, who will guide you through the rest of the process.

If your current provider is Virgin Media then you will need to let them know that you're leaving and it's up to you to coordinate the end of one contract and the start of another.
