With the introduction of its WiFi Max guarantee, Virgin Media ensures you have a reliable WiFi connection even in the hardest to reach areas of the home. Backed up by signal-boosting mesh WiFi Pods and Intelligent WiFi service, Virgin Media’s WiFi Max is the fastest WiFi guarantee of any major provider. This guide looks in more detail at what Virgin Media's WiFi Max guarantee is and exactly how it works.
What is Virgin Media WiFi Max?
Virgin Media WiFi Max is Virgin Media’s WiFi Guarantee that promises you’ll enjoy download speeds of at least 20Mb in every room or get £100 bill credit.
It uses up to 3 WiFi pods to seamlessly extend your WiFi network and claims to be the fastest WiFi guarantee of any major provider.
How does Virgin Media WiFi Max work?
Before you go ahead and sign up to WiFi max, you will need to download the Virgin Media Connect App.
This app lets you run a WiFi ‘home scan’ to smooth out any snags, check for any network problems and test your WiFi speed in each room. If any room receives less than 20Mb download speeds then you can order your first WiFi Pod via the app.
When you have received and plugged in your first WiFi Pod, you can then use the Connect app to check your new speeds. If you still aren’t getting the 20Mb, then you can order a second WiFi Pod. Virgin Media will supply up to three pods.
If three pods doesn’t solve the problem, Virgin Media will look into it for you. This might include remote line testing or sending out a technician. If that still doesn’t fix it then they’ll add a one-off £100 credit on your next bill.
How do Virgin Media WiFi Pods work?
The Virgin Media WiFi Pods are small hexagonal devices that go directly into a plug socket. Simply plug it into a socket halfway between a strong-signal spot and weak-signal spot in your home.
These little devices work with your Intelligent WiFi-powered Hub using advanced mesh technology to extend your existing network.
Some WiFi boosters create new networks, which your devices have to connect and disconnect from as you move around your home. The benefit of mesh technology is that it extends your existing network so you can stay connected in each room.
How much does WiFi Max cost?
WiFi Max included at no extra cost for those customers on Virgin Media’s Gig1 Fibre Broadband, Volt or Ultimate Volt packages. If you are on one of their M50 to M500 Fibre Broadband packs (without Volt), you can add WiFi Max for £8 a month.
Does WiFi Max replace Intelligent WiFi Plus?
In a way, yes. The big differences between Intelligent WiFi Plus and WiFi Max is the speed claim and the price.
Whilst Intelligent WiFi Plus came with the same WiFi pods we talked about earlier, there was no guarantee of any minimum speed or money back offer. It also cost £5 per month, instead of the £8 for WiFi Max.
If you are an existing Intelligent WiFi Plus customer, then you will automatically be moved over to WiFi Max, but don’t worry, you will continue to pay your existing £5 per month.
Intelligent WiFi
Intelligent WiFi, not to be confused with Intelligent WiFi Plus, is designed to automatically sort out any WiFi issues around your home without you needing to leave your seat. The Virgin Media Hub 3, 4 and 5 have Intelligent WiFi built in as standard.
If you have any hard-to-reach places in your home, that’s where WiFi Max (or previously the Intelligent WiFi Plus) steps in.
